The City is the heart of London because this is where it all started – and for me it has a very special atmosphere. If you scroll down you’ll see that I’ve plotted Roman London on to the modern map so you can see how it corresponds to the “square mile”. I’v also done a map showing how much of the city was destroyed in the great fire – from Tower right across to Temple – amazing. Stand-out things to see? Well every Monday, free tickets are released to visit the Sky Garden in the “walkie talkie building. There really is a fantastic view from here, and the space itself is airy and green with plants. Leadenhall market is lovely with it’s colourful Victorian ironwork and I highly recommend following my walk route from there past the fantastical Lloyds building and through the skyscrapers. I love the spot in front of the Royal Exchange where there is a meeting on historic roads and alleys and lots of historic buildings including the “Old Lady of Threadneedle Street”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This walk takes all day, and will take you through all the nicest and most atmospheric streets and alleys. You can easily split it into sections: Tower to Bank; Bank to St Pauls; St Pauls to Bank; Bank to Tower.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
