I will be adding directions to these walks and telling you about the areas, but if you like reading maps, here are some of those I’ve been working on. Do let me have any thoughts in comments.
Through charming Shepherd’s Market and elegant St James’s past art galleries and men’s fashion boutiques to Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square. 50 minutes, 2.1 miles, 3.5km
Instead of walking to the museums through the dingy subway from South Kensington station, discover pretty Knightsbridge Village, and walk past a playground and the lovely Rose Garden of Hyde Park
Leafy walk down charming St John’s Wood High Street, featuring sections along pretty Regent’s Canal, the exceptional view from Primrose Hill and a walk through Primrose Hill village, finishing at Camden Lock Market and High Street. Get to know London.
Join the bustle and explore another historic area with plenty of little shops, cafes and restaurants. Popular tourist destination. 1 hour, 1.9 miles, 3km, 1 hour
Colourful houses, independent shops and stalls featured in the film Notting Hill. Saturday is full market day, really busy so go early, but shops and selected stalls open other days.
Portobello Road is still highlighted, but why not extend your walk. Extension 1 takes you around some of the beautiful colourful crescents and terraces of Notting Hill. Extension 2 starts at Queensway and takes you down this characterful shopping street before heading through the white stucco squares of Bayswater to meet Portobello Road. Extension 3 is a lovely walk through the elegant and exclusive area of Holland Park. The Park itself is one of the loveliest and most varied in London and well worth a detour.
A very pretty walk through Kensington village starting on High Street Kensington (take a left out of the station and turn left into Wright’s Lane. To see the sights, extend the walk by turning right as shown in pale green from Kensington Park Gardens into Kensington Gardens, to see the Palace, The Royal Albert Hall and Memorial, and the three big museums.
